Anthony Loewy, 65 of Palmyra, was driving north on Gravel Hill Road in North Londonderry Township when he was struck head-on by Jim Ondesko, 28, of Dauphin, township police told Daily Voice.
The crash was first called into LCDES at 8:26 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 11.
Loewy had been "retrieving his beloved miniature pinscher from B&D Kennel" after visiting one of his daughter's families for an early Christmas celebration, his daughter, June Hockenberry told Daily Voice.
The two-vehicle accident reportedly had injuries and entrapment requiring EMS, fire, and fire police to come to the crash at the intersection of Gravel Hill Road and Bindnagles Road in North Londonderry Township, according to dispatch.
A coroner was requested at the scene at 11:06 a.m.
It is unclear what caused Ondesko to cross over into oncoming traffic. It is also unknown if he was injured in the crash.
The Lebanon County Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting the North Londonderry Township Police Department with the investigation.
Loewy went by Tony and was a Field Specialist at Varian Medical Systems, according to his LinkedIn. He "served our country in the navy and coast guard," his younger brother Johnny wrote in a Facebook post. He also noted that the crash happened the day before their father's 90th birthday.
His daughter June Hockenberry wrote the following in part in another Facebook post:
"My father was a veteran with over 20 years of military service and will be buried next week with full military honors at Fort Indiantown Gap."
His official obituary was not available at the time of publication.
